AHS October 2023 Article:

Vaping and toxic chemicals

No matter what you are vaping, vapes still have risks
Toxic chemicals have been found in vaping liquids and more are created while you are vaping
Disposable vapes and pods contain parts that never decompose and leach toxic chemicals into our environment
Uncover the dangerous chemicals and metals hiding inside of vapes at BehindTheHaze.ca

Vaping and mental health

Nicotine distorts your mood, making you feel and act ‘off’
Nicotine throws off the natural balance of neurotransmitters in your brain, like dopamine and serotonin, which affects your mood
Stress, anxiety and depression are some of the reasons young people say they start using vapes, but vaping can make these things worse
See how vaping can mess with your mental health at BehindTheHaze.ca

Vaping and addiction

Most vaping products contain nicotine which is a highly addictive chemical

Cigarettes and vapes – different product, same addiction
Addiction means it is hard to stop vaping even when you really want to
Sharing a vape with your friend can share germs, illness – even addiction

Sharing vapes means sharing addiction – find out more at BehindTheHaze.ca

Vaping and help to stop

If you or a friend need help to stop vaping, reach out to an adult you trust – a parent/guardian, family member, teacher, coach or counsellor
You can also connect with a counsellor at Kids Help Phone by calling 1-800-668-6868, texting CONNECT to 686868 or visiting www.kidshelpphone.ca
